Mixed Media - Beginners Bookmaking  

This course introduces the application of multiple mediums to drawings, paintings and 3D works of art. The use of traditional, and unconventional art tools and mediums is encouraged and integrated into the critical thinking process. The course emphasizes principles of design, composition and colour in creating contemporary art. Starting with limited materials, students build up to a greater number of mixed mediums. Students practice methods of collage, layering, transfer techniques, various surface textural effects such as, crackling, scraffito, encaustic effects etc.

Beginners Bookmaking
This course is an introduction to a variety of book structures including accordions, sewn pamphlets, Japanese stab bindings, flag book and tunnel book. Learn the construction techniques and create several books using your own material. Artists, photographers, scrapbookers, and writers are welcome. Teachers too! Many of these techniques can be used in the elementary and high school classroom.
$30 materials fee due at first class.
