Internet Mapping [CSMO47]
In this course students will explore internet mapping foundations, principles, and design. Students will integrate data into consumable web maps that empower end users to make better decisions and manipulate code to benefit their internet map product. We will explore implementation of systems from developing web services, handling data, and producing visually interesting map products. The topics we will study are Web Servers, Web Map Services, Hosting Data, Processing Data, web programming languages, conveying a story with an internet map, and empowering end users with analysis tools.
Prerequisite:
Introduction to GIS.
No textbook required.
Software Required:
This course uses MapServer, Google Maps, Openlayers and Leaflet to construct spatially enabled Internet-web applications. Not required to buy any software. The software listed above will run in Windows, OS, and Linux but all instructions and tutorials are for the Windows environment.
