Painting Prudence Heward: Bold Modern and Canadian

This course has been deferred.
Dates will be posted once the new schedule is confirmed.

Inspired by Prudence Heward and her Beaver Hall colleagues, learn to intensify your subject of choice with strong planes, expressive outlines, richness and intensity from an interesting point of view. In this three-day workshop on modern realist painting, create images of strength and clarity with bold shape and strong colour. We will visit the Brockville Museum exhibition on Prudence Heward (1896-1947). Heward invited Canadian artist friends such as AY Jackson to her cottage on the St Lawrence River in Brockville for country drives, “painting picnics” of area landscapes. A co-founding member of The Canadian Group of Painters, a vital force in the 1930s, Prudence Heward is acclaimed as Canada’s strongest figure painter. Through quick painted studies, larger painting, talks and slides, Heward and the new modern Canadian vision will be explored for its relevance to today. All levels. Acrylic or oil (no solvent). [Exhibition at The Brockville Museum, entry fee extra ].
