  • Computer Keyboarding Skills I [CSLA7]

    In this course students learn keyboarding techniques using various methods. Keyboarding speed and accuracy are emphasized. Proofreading and editing documents is covered. Research about repetitive stress injury (RSI) and proper ergonomics is included. The student should be able to achieve a minimum speed of 25 net words per minute (nwpm) with 5 or fewer errors with frequent practice. Textbook Required.
     

    Software/Hardware Required: You will need to access to a home or office personal computer with an Internet connection and Web access. 
    Supported Browsers; Chrome version 65 or later,  Firefox version 58 or later, Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 7,8,8.1 only). Compatibility mode is not supported, Microsoft Edge 16 MacOS / OS X, Chrome version 65 or later, Firefox version 58 or later, Safari version 11 or later iOS, Safari version 10 or later. Only the SAM Study Center is supported. 2016 Tasks might not work in portrait mode on iPad, you can't just right-click. Other browsers and versions than those listed might also work, but are not supported. If you have problems when using an unsupported browser, try using a supported browser before contacting your facilitator.

    This course will familiarize students with the digital world by exploring the hardware and software of their computer system. Students will learn to use the most common functions of the Windows operating system including File Explorer for file management, utility programs, various web browsers for social media while observing and identifying security and privacy concerns and issues. Students will learn to build properly formatted documents using Microsoft Word and spreadsheets including correctly functioning formulas using Microsoft Excel and create commanding presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint while using the cloud to store and access their files. No textbook required. 

    Software Required: Windows, Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 or 365.  MAC users will not be supported in this course. Version 2013 no longer supported.

Students completing this course will have a well rounded knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers 1 or equivalent. No textbook required.

    Software Required: Windows, Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 or 365 Excel/PowerPoint/Access. MAC users will not be supported in this course.
