Identify the roles and responsibilities of workers within the tourism industry (e.g., chef, server, esthetician, host, housekeeper, bartender, customer service agent, etc.), and learn how they contribute to local tourism. You'll learn about regional tourism and be able to recommend local events, attractions, and businesses to clients and visitors.

The hospitality and tourism industry relies on exceptional customer service, and interactions with visitors are a core component of their operations. Learn how to use professional and inclusive communication and behaviour in all visitor interactions (in person, phone, and email). As a customer service professional, learn how to respond to visitor inquiries, questions, and concerns and when to utilize conflict resolution strategies. Describe products and services to visitors in an engaging way. Reflect on personal strengths, and visitor feedback, to identify areas for professional growth.

As a customer service professional, can you maintain brand consistency? What are the various ways the business brand is realized in daily operations. This course will show you how to keep customers engaged while staying true to the company brand, when in person, on the phone, through email and social media. You'll learn how to utilize customer feedback to inform improvement plans that create a positive experience and lasting impression for customers.

What sanitation protocols are in effect during the COVID pandemic?  Find out which COVID protocols to follow.  Monitor COVID symptoms and manage safety protocols, as regulated by businesses and health units. 

Elevate your culinary skills. Discover the appropriate equipment such as pans, pots and food storage to use for different products and appliances. Model proper knife handling technique. Follow a recipe from selecting ingredients, calculating ingredient substitutions and conversions to choosing the appropriate cooking method and technique to achieve the desired result. Select and mix ingredients for baking and predict the final product using knowledge of ingredient mixtures, baking time and baking temperature. Examine equipment for signs of unusual wear and damage.   

How do housekeepers manage to make a room look clean and well presented? You will learn how to promote a positive image and model discretion, respect and good customer services skills. Choose the appropriate cleaner and equipment for the task, prioritize effective time management and ensure strict attention to detail for a sparkling result. Examine equipment for damage, or unusual signs of wear and follow health and safety protocols for the reduction of work hazards.

This course can be used as an elective requirement in the Hospitality and Tourism Micro-Credential, and learners will receive a digital badge upon completion.
