  • Marine Emergency Duties - Domestic Vessel Safety

    This course is compliant with the requirements of the Marine Personnel Regulations on minimum training in personal survival techniques and fire fighting for Canadian seafarers sailing on board passenger vessels, workboats, or fishing vessels engaged on a voyage in domestic waters.  It replaces the MED A1 & MED A2 courses.

    This course highlights potential hazards and emergencies aboard ship and gives you the knowledge you need in order to respond effectively.  The three day training provides practical experience including pool exercises and the handling of firefighting equipment and flares.  Participants who complete the training are issued a Transport Canada certificate.   

    To ensure this course is appropriate, participants are strongly encouraged to confirm with a Transport Canada Marine Safety examiner which MED course is required for the type of trade and the size and type of vessel in which they are seeking certification or employment.

    This course helps candidates prepare for the Transport Canada exam in General Ship Knowledge.

    This course introduces the learner to the daily operations on a vessel and provides basic knowledge of the features of a ship including engineering, and electrical systems. Work through activities to help you understand the location and use of safety equipment on board. Plan a voyage using geographical data and weather conditions for the area and implement pollution prevention strategies for travelling in sheltered waters.

    Learners will receive a digital badge upon successful course completion.

    This course helps candidates prepare for the Transport Canada exam in Navigational Safety.  Learn how to avoid danger and collisions while navigating a vessel. This course provides analysis of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Examine the principles to be observed when keeping a navigational watch at sea, at anchor and in port. Effective bridge teamwork procedures (including proper handover of the watch, look- outs, and effective communication between bridge team members), are also covered.
