This course is for: • All personnel on large cargo or passenger ships. • All certified crew members on limited voyage passenger vessels.
This course highlights potential hazards and emergencies aboard ship and gives you the knowledge you need in order to respond effectively. The three day training provides practical experience including pool exercises and the handling of firefighting equipment and flares. Participants who complete the training are issued a Transport Canada certificate. Topics covered include: the theory of combustion; the proper use of onboard firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances; techniques that increase your chances of survival in and on the water; appropriate conduct in a search-and-rescue operation as either the rescuer or the rescued; maintenance and use of rescue equipment, flares, smoke floats, slings, nets, radios, etc.; and managing passengers and panic in the face of an emergency.
