Option 2: Nursing Transformation Online   

Admission to the online bridging courses is made available to practicing RPNs through OCAS. Only accepted applicants are eligible to register for the courses listed below. These courses are available for anyone to take but it is important for all prospective students to understand what will be required for admission to semester/level 5 of the BScN program after completion of the bridging courses. View admission & program requirements here.

Students should understand that high grades are required in each course to support an application to semester 5 of the BScN program. RPN to BScN Bridging Courses FAQS (Nursing Transformation Online)

Courses should be taken in the following order: 

  1. Biochemistry and Pathophysiology - CSSL1003
  2. Scholarly Writing - CSSL1002
  3. Nursing Informatics - CSCM1008
  4. Health Assessment - CSCM 1006
  5. Microbiology - CSCM 1007
  6. Transition to the Role of RN - CSSL1004 (This must be taken last.) Upon acceptance of an offer to enter semester 5 of the SLC BScN program, the associated lab NURS6508 will be offered. A lab fee will apply.

  • Biochemistry and Pathophysiology (PN-BScN) [CSSL1003]

    In this course, you will relate clinical biochemistry to client disease states commonly encountered in nursing practice. Using a case-oriented approach, you will expand your knowledge of pathophysiology by interpreting the alterations in levels of key chemical markers in a variety of patient samples. You will explore the utility of clinical biochemistry as means of guiding disease diagnosis and clinical judgement in the evaluation of therapeutics. Textbook Required.

    In this course, you will learn how to form a clinical question, and access scholarly literature to answer your question. You will also learn how to write a scholarly paper, including how to plan, write and revise your work. Textbook Required.

    In this course, you will combine theoretical and experiential learning focused on the skills of socio-environmental, biopsychosocial, and physical health assessments with clients across the life span. This course includes theoretical and virtual lab components. Textbook Required.

    In this course, you will explore the use of informatics as it relates to the discipline of nursing. Nursing informatics focuses on the integration of nursing, computer sciences, and patient data as it supports and enhances clinical practice in a variety of settings. You will also be explore issues surrounding privacy protection, confidentiality, and security of health information. Textbook Required.

  • Microbiology (PN-BScN) [CSCM1007]

    In this course, you will identify major classes of microbes and describe microbial structures and functions along with their biochemistry and growth requirements. You will link fundamental concepts to clinical practice contexts, including identification of microbes, diagnosis, treatment, and drug resistance. Some of the key concepts explored in this course include disease prevention, human-microbe interactions, the immune response, and microbial control. Textbook Required.
