Option 2: Nursing Transformation Online   

Admission to the online bridging courses is made available to practicing RPNs through OCAS. Only accepted applicants are eligible to register for the courses listed below. These courses are available for anyone to take but it is important for all prospective students to understand what will be required for admission to semester/level 5 of the BScN program after completion of the bridging courses.

    In this course, you will identify major classes of microbes and describe microbial structures and functions along with their biochemistry and growth requirements. You will link fundamental concepts to clinical practice contexts, including identification of microbes, diagnosis, treatment, and drug resistance. Some of the key concepts explored in this course include disease prevention, human-microbe interactions, the immune response, and microbial control. Textbook Required.

    In this course, you will relate clinical biochemistry to client disease states commonly encountered in nursing practice. Using a case-oriented approach, you will expand your knowledge of pathophysiology by interpreting the alterations in levels of key chemical markers in a variety of patient samples. You will explore the utility of clinical biochemistry as means of guiding disease diagnosis and clinical judgement in the evaluation of therapeutics. Textbook Required.

    In this course, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will build upon their prior knowledge of their professional nursing practice and reflect on their current role and practice as a RPN and nursing student to develop the knowledge and skills required to transition to the role of the Registered Nurse (RN).  This course will examine the theoretical foundations to facilitate this transition and introduce the learner to concepts as they relate to this transition. The roles of the RN will be explored using the College of Nurses’ (CNO) entry to practice competencies as a guide. Textbook required.
