Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)   

The Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation provides the foundation for a career in payroll and is offered in partnership with the National Payroll Institute. The PCP courses help you gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative requirements to keep your organization compliant throughout the annual payroll cycle. 

In addition to registration and tuition payment with St. Lawrence College, students must register with National Payroll Institute and pay the Institute’s course fee and membership fee.     Payroll Compliance Legislation is the first course in the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation.

    Students who complete the course will know the payroll compliance responsibilities that affect organizations, be able to comprehend legislation and effectively communicate these to all stakeholders. This course will provide students with the payroll-related legislation affecting organizations, as well as the tools to find information and apply that information to different payroll scenarios. 

    In addition to registering with St. Lawrence College and paying this course fee you must also register with the National Payroll Institute and pay the Association a fee to access the course materials.

    This course introduces the student to how accounting information is used by, and meets the needs of both internal and external users through effective and efficient communication as well as what accounting information is required by a business concern to reflect clearly the operating results of the enterprise over its operating life. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to generally accepted accounting principles,the interpretation and preparation of financial statements and how this information is recorded in the various business records. Textbook Required. 

    Software Required: MS Word & MS Excel, Wiley PLUS is a required resource. A direct link to purchase will be available within the course learning platform once the course starts.

  • Payroll Fundamentals 1

    Students who complete this course will be able to apply payroll legislation and calculate individual pay. This includes all components of individual pay from remuneration, through deductions, to net pay for both regular and non-regular situations. Students will have the content and skills to effectively communicate all aspects of the individual pay calculation process to external and internal stakeholders. Prerequisite: Payroll Compliance Legislation

  • Payroll Fundamentals 2
  • Delivery: Instructor-led Virtual Classroom
    Course Code: ACCT19

    Students who complete this course will be able to calculate and report the government and third party remittances, year-end requirements, discuss payroll technology solutions and account for payroll at the compliance level for the organization. Students will be able to effectively communicate these organizational processes and requirements to internal and external stakeholders. Prerequisites: Payroll Compliance Legislation and Payroll Fundamentals 1

    NOTE: Taking Introduction to Accounting before Payroll Fundamentals 2 is recommended.
